Year 2025 in Review
Exit is unique among all non-profits who work in the area of end of life rights.
This is because only Exit focuses upon DIY dying as a technical possibility and a practical reality.
Headed by Philip Nitschke who not only trained as a medical doctor but also has a background in experimental and applied physics, it is the smarts of this man who set Exit apart.
‘Forever the inventor’ is how long-standing friends describe Philip.

At work in the laboratory
The readers of the Peaceful Pill eHandbook (and members of his organisation Exit International) are the beneficiaries of a lifetime of his thinking and his work.
In 2025, and in light of the ‘paralysis’ of the rollout of the Sarco in Switzerland, Philip has turned his attention to other matters.
Firstly, 2025 saw the Double Dutch Sarco project begin.
An extension of the initial Sarco project (a mission which began in 2012), the new Sarco will be able to accommodate couples.
Given the hysterical reaction of ‘the Swiss’ (or at least the canton of Schaffhausen) to the successful first use of the Sarco in September 2024, it seemed futile to wait around to see the legal outcome.
Moving ahead with producing a double capsule seemed the only sensible thing to do.
Likewise, 2025 has seen the first two prototypes of the ‘Kairos Kollar’.
Originally described in the Peaceful Pill eHandbook as the ‘Korean Method’, the Kollar is still in development but is looking very promising as a DIY method that is:
- Reliable
- Peaceful
- Cheap to make
- Able to be made at home
- Made from items that governments cannot ban
Furthermore, this year has been focused on challenging some of the alternative facts that have passed as science in relation to Nembutal and Nitrogen.
Firstly, Nembutal has continued to be discussed in some circles as a method of death that brings the subjective experience of drowning.
This narrative argues that a Nembutal death can never be peaceful. Exit disagrees.
On the issue of Nitrogen, the increasing number of capital punishment deaths in the US have led to eye witnesses saying that the convulsions that have occurred make the death anything but peaceful.
These testimonials stand in stark contrast to the years of eye witness accounts from those within the movement that say that hypoxia deaths (gas and an exit bag) are extremely peaceful.
While the aesthetics might be troubling (a person with a bag on their head), the tranquility of the process is second to none.
The peacefulness of the single death that occurred inside the Sarco can also not be explained by the critics.
In the face of such criticisms it is left to Exit to fight the good fight and rebuff the critics.
The organisation has published numerous updates during the course of 2025 on all of these issues. Webinars and Snippets have also been held.
In 2026, updates will continue to be published. The first update for the year will be based on the January Open Mic Q&A session. Registrations are now open
Webinar recordings are published in the Peaceful Pill eHandbook.
In 2026, Snippet recordings will go straight into the book also.
Exit wishes all readers/ subscribers a safe and healthy holiday season.
